Situated in the maritime-terrestrial zone of Los Almendros Beach in Rincón, this area suffered significant damage, including the destruction of a nesting pool, in the aftermath of Hurricane María.

What initially began as a local community's outcry for environmental conservation quickly evolved into a self-driven movement that galvanized individuals from across the island. United by a common goal to protect and preserve public domain assets, people from diverse backgrounds came together to take action.

Campamento Carey symbolizes the power of collective action and community resilience in the face of environmental challenges. By mobilizing resources, expertise, and grassroots efforts, the initiative aims to rebuild and safeguard crucial habitats for endangered species like the hawksbill turtle.
